Discover SCUBA Diving
An introduction to SCUBA diving. Not a certification course, just a lot of fun with an experienced instructor guiding you through the underwater world. Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD) can be done at the beach (half day program available from November to April) or on a day trip out on the dive boat with two or three dives at an offshore island like Racha Yai or Racha Noi. More details.
PADI SCUBA Diver
The SCUBA Diver certification is basically half of the PADI Open Water Diver Course. It qualifies you to dive with a guide to a maximum depth of 12 metres. You can upgrade the SCUBA Diver cert to the full PADI Open Water certification at a later date. This is a good option for people with limited time available to train. The SCUBA diver certification takes 2 days. Day 1 is class and pool, day 2 involves two ocean dives. More details.
PADI Open Water Diver
PADI’s most popular learn to dive course. “The way the world learns to dive.” It’s a 3 or 4 day certification course after which you will qualified to dive independently to 18 metres depth. The course includes some theory, some pool sessions and four dives in open water. Dives are normally conducted at Racha Yai Island in clear water surrounded by fish. We can also organise open water dives to Phi Phi and Similan Islands. More details.
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
Continuing education course. Improve your diving skills and gain new experiences. The PADI Advanced course includes 5 adventure dives although depending on the dive sites visited you may get a free extra boat dive. The course includes a deep dive and a navigation dive as standard. Then you can choose 3 elective dives from a list that includes, wreck diving, night diving, underwater photography, peak performance buoyancy and more. More details.
Dives can be at Shark Point, Koh Doc Mai, King Cruiser, Racha Noi/Yai or Phi Phi Island. The advanced course can also be completed on a liveaboard as the dives can be easily integrated into the itinerary.
The advanced course is increasingly being required as the minimum certification level for joining a dive boat here and in other parts of the world.
PADI Speciality courses
A huge list of niche diving courses. The most popular and useful specialties are Digital Underwater Photographer and Enriched Air Nitrox. Other specialties include Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diver, Underwater Navigation, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Drift Diver.
Do 5 specialties to qualify for the PADI Master SCUBA Diver rating.
PADI Rescue Diver
PADI calls this course “serious fun.” You will learn self rescue techniques first followed by how to help out other divers in distress. The rescue diver course is done in combination with the PADI EFR course and takes 3 days. More details.
The first level of PADI Professional.
Recommended Phuket dive centres
We are authorized booking agents for Seafun Divers PADI 5 Star CDC Centre. Seafun has the best diver training facilities on Phuket Island, a huge training pool (70x50m), an experiencced team of PADI instructors and quality, top brand equipment. They also have house reefs a few steps from two of their dive centres, where you can do beach dives. Seafun has a dive boat that is never over crowded. Seafun can run group courses or custom private courses. Transfers to the dive centre and boat are provided from any Phuket hotel. Day trips and courses run all year round.
If you are on a tight budget there are plenty of cheap dive shops on Phuket but in diving the old saying that you get what you pay for usually holds true. Cheap isn’t great and great isn’t cheap. Having said that we have selected a local dive centre called Local Dive Thailand that we think offers good quality dive courses at cheaper prices. Their dive centre is in Chalong and pool training is done at Kata. They have their own dive boat which runs to local Phuket dive sites every day.
