Whale shark season at Richelieu Rock

Whale shark March 2015 HallelujahIn past years whale sharks have been most common between February and April but in these climatically changing times they can appear at any time.

Some seasons are better than others for number of whale shark sightings, no one really knows why but water temperature is probably the biggest factor.

Whenever we have a season of few sightings the dive industry panics that they have all been fished from the oceans. It is probably true that numbers are declining, pre-millennium it was a case of how many whale sharks will I see today?

Nowadays some luck is required but 2014, 2015 and 2016 have all been good years.
