MV Explorer

New for 2023, MV Explorer is a purpose-built, 26-metre, wooden-hulled vessel. It can carry up to 16 guests across it’s three decks, meaning there’s plenty of space to relax or socialize.

MV Explorer offers great value liveaboard diving to the Similan Islands, Surin Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.

Just 16 divers makes for a better diving experience. Dive groups are 4 divers per 1 divemaster. Kitting up and diving is organized in two groups of 8, to keep the dive deck and the dive site clear.

The price even includes full equipment rental with dive computer!

There are 3, 5 or 8 and 13 day itineraries including trips that focus only on the northern dive sites (Koh Tachai, Surin Islands, Richelieu Rock).

Features

Khao Lak liveaboard

  • Sleeps 16 guests.
  • 4 dive guides plus 6 boat crew for excellent personal service.
  • Length 26 metres. Wooden hull.
  • All cabins have air conditioning, storage space, reading lights and 220v plug sockets (24 hour electricity).
  • All cabins have windows.
  • 2 en-suite double bed cabins (lower deck) with a large double bed and private bathroom.
  • 4 en-suite twin/double cabins (lower deck) with private bathroom. (Can convert from two twin beds to one large double bed).
  • 2 standard double bed cabins (middle deck) with shared bathrooms.
  • All meals freshly cooked, 3 times per day. Breakfast is full western with bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes etc. Plus toast, jams, fruits. Or Khao Tom (rice soup) is also an option. Lunch and dinner are Thai style (not too spicy) curries and soups with rice and fresh veggies. Let us know in advance if you have personal dietary requirements, vegetarian and vegan diets can be catered for.
  • Snacks, breakfast cereals, fruits, hot drinks are always available on the main deck diving area.
  • In the evening beers and wine are available for sale.
  • On the upper deck there are sun bathing areas and shaded areas for relaxing on bean bags or hammocks.
  • Fresh water showers on the dive platform and rinse buckets for equipment/cameras.
  • There is a choice of places to relax, either in our open air dining area or in a hammock or sun mattress on the large sundeck.
  • Cruising speed 10 knots.
  • GPS, SatNav, VHF radio, life jackets, life rings, fully stocked medical kits, 100% oxygen, dinghy.

Park fees: 3d3n 1,800 baht, 5d5n 2,200-2,400 baht, 8d8n 4,000-4,200 baht, 13d13n 6,200 baht

Note: Divers must have logged dives within the last year and be certified to 30 m.
Scuba Reviews can be conducted on a local reef in Khao Lak prior to the liveaboard. 3,500 baht/diver.
PADI Open Water (or equivalent) divers will be required to conduct a PADI Adventure Deep Dive as the first dive of the trip for an additional 1,800 baht charge.

Itinerary

MV Explorer itinerary

Departure day: Divers should meet at the Khao lak dive centre by latest 4 pm to check in, try on equipment and pay any balance due. All customers will be required to complete a
registration form and liability release form, and show their certification cards before departure. Once check in is completed you will have some free time before departure from the dive centre at around 6.30 pm. Dinner is not served on the first evening so have dinner before departure.

Final day:  There will be two morning dives. The last dive finishes at about midday, then MV Explorer cruises back to the mainland. Arrival back at the Khao Lak dive centre will be at about 5.30-6.00 pm. From here onward taxi’s to Phuket airport can be arranged if required.

 

5 days 5 nights (south to north route) – 16 dives

Diving day 1: 3 dives (2 day dives and 1 night dive) Similan Islands. Plus beach excursion.

Day 2: 4 dives (3 day dives and 1 night dive) Similan Islands and Koh Bon.

Day 3:  4 dives (3 day dives and 1 sunset dive) Koh Bon and Koh Tachai.

Day 4: 3 dives at the Surin Islands, plus beach excursion.

Day 5: 2 dives at Richelieu Rock.

 

3 days 3 nights (9 dives)

Day 1: 3 dives Koh Tachai

Day 2: 4 dives (3 day dives and 1 night dive) at the Surin Islands, plus beach excursion.

Day 3: 2 dives at Richelieu Rock.

 

5 days 5 nights (north to south route) – 16 dives

Day 1: 3 dives (2 day dives and 1 night dive) at the Surin Islands, plus beach excursion.
