Accommodation for divers in Krabi and Ao Nang

The Ao Nang area of Krabi is the best place to stay if you are vacationing in Krabi. If you stay at a Railey beach resort you will need to use long tail boats to get to Ao Nang for any Krabi tours that you book. It’s better to stay in Ao Nang and visit Railey beach for the day. Krabi Town is the municiple centre of the province.

We wouldn’t recommend Krabi for a two week vacation, we can’t imagine what you would do there for two weeks. Ok the scenery is very pretty but unless you are a rock climber your activities are limited. There are less options for diving from Krabi than from Phuket or Khao Lak. Ao Nang is where people go to escape the tourists of Phuket, not realizing that Ao Nang was built especially for tourists. It’s the definition of a tourist trap, locals complain that they can’t find proper Thai food there. In Krabi’s favour it is clean and ordered and cheap to get around. Ao Nang is popular with families, many of the hotels have rooms with adjoining doors especially for families. We think that a few days in Ao Nang is plenty. After that move on to Phi Phi, Phuket or south to Koh Lanta.

Ao Nang hotel suggestions

We recommend the Phra Nang Inn because of it’s location. It’s on the beach and close to where the long tail boats depart for the islands. It’s got some nice restaurants nearby. It’s one of the original Krabi hotels, owned by a local family.

The AoNang Sunset is a decent 3 star hotel close to the beach and the main promenade.

If you have a tight budget you can get very good value accommodation just by moving 10-15 minutes away from the beach. Green View Village is in a nice setting and so is Ao Nang Cliff View Resort.
