Koh Doc Mai Phuket
Spotlight on Koh Doc Mai diving
Koh Doc Mai is normally dived as part of a Phuket three dive day trip together with Shark Point and the King Cruiser Wreck.
Visibility is pretty average. Maximum depth is around 25m although the wall is basically the same at all depths so you might as well stay shallow, enjoy the extra light and have a nice long dive.
Koh Doc Mai is an excellent dive for macro photography enthusiasts although occasional grey reef sharks, leopard sharks and even whale sharks are sighted here. Most common though are sea horses, ornate ghost pipe fish, frog fish, leaf fish, nudibranchs and other critters. It’s mostly a wall dive, the wall is covered with crinoids, zig zag clams, barrel sponges, gorgonian sea fans and bubble coral. Moray eels are all over the wall, so are lion fish and scorpion fish. It’s a great dive site to drift slowly along close to the wall trying to spot the small stuff, the local dive masters are experts at it. There are a couple of caverns and small caves worth looking into as well.
