May weather
Phuket diving weather in May
It may be wet in May :). May is one of the wettest months of the year. What that really means is heavy tropical storms of short duration and overcast skies. It’s still warm.
The wind is now coming from the north east bringing waves to Thailand’s west coast beaches.
Beach diving pretty much stops in Phuket until late October, surfboards come out instead.
The Similan Islands National Marine Park is now officially closed for the off season and most resort areas like Khao Lak and Krabi are very quiet, tourist numbers drop significantly.
Phuket is more of a year round destination and day trip diving from Chalong bay still depart daily as usual.
The diving can be excellent in May with fewer boats and fewer divers on the dive sites.
