Why Night Diving in Phuket?
- Because you see marine life behaving differently. For example on a Phuket night dive you might see sleeping parrotfish in their protective cocoon or free swimming moray eels which are much more active at night. Shine your torch on some small sprats and hunting trevallies or barracuda may dart in for an easy meal. The Similan Islands, Racha Islands and Phi Phi commonly have sleeping turtles on night dives (please try not to wake them). You’ll see (and hear) snapping shrimps as their eyes reflect off your light beams. Wave your hand in front of your face and you’ll see a beautiful bio-luminescent display from the phosphorescent plankton. You’ll see more crabs and lobsters on night dives. Squid may also be attracted to your torch beam.
- Because if focuses the attention. With a smaller field of vision you see critters that you would probably have missed on a day dive.
- Because it’s fun. Night diving feels like being James Bond on a secret mission. While night diving in Phuket we recommend wearing a black wetsuit, mask and fins and turning off your dive light so that your guide can’t see you and has a little panic… Only joking 😉
