Navigating underwater is much more than just using a compass. This course will teach you how to get back to the boat if you are diving independently or if you lose your guide. The Navigation specialty course is a real confidence booster.

For the PADI Underwater Navigation Specialty Course you can do your boat dives at Koh Racha Yai, or Racha Noi.It is also possible to do the PADI Underwater Navigation Specialty Course at the Similan Islands in combination with a Similan liveaboard cruise.

Why you must learn underwater navigation

In some parts of the world it is common to dive with a guide who will take care of getting you from start to finish of a dive. In many locations however you will dive independently of a divemaster and must find your own way. This can be quite a nerve wracking experience, especially the first time that you do it. Getting lost is at best embarrassing and at worst life threatening.

Until underwater GPS devises for divers get invented you can use a few simple techniques to avoid getting lost on a dive. The underwater navigation specialty course teaches correct use of the compass plus the use of other natural navigation techniques. In the three dives you will have ample time to practice. These skills should be learned by all divers. Having an awareness of your location underwater makes diving more relaxing and safer. Learning navigation skills increases diver confidence.
