Similan Liveaboard from Phuket

Most Similan Islands liveaboards depart from Thap Lamu pier which is 10 minutes drive south of Khao Lak and about 1 hour drive north of Phuket island. Departing from Thap Lamu makes the crossing to the Similan Islands short and is convenient if you are staying in Khao Lak or arrive at Phuket International Airport on the same day as departure.

Most medium and high budget liveaboards provide transfers from Phuket to Thap Lamu pier included in the price. The lower budget boats often do not include the transfers but we can arrange them for a small extra charge.

There are some liveaboards that depart from Phuket and make the longer cruise to the Similan Islands. Historically all boats departed from Phuket, Khao Lak has only developed as a base for divers over the last 15 years or so. Operators moved their boats to Khao Lak because it’s cheaper to transfer guests to Thap Lamu pier by minibus and then cross to the Similan Islands from there rather than to cruise all the way from Phuket.

Some people don’t relish the idea of 90 minutes sat in a minibus at the start of their liveaboard trip and would rather cruise from Phuket to the Similan Islands. Sailing north west into the sunset on the first evening of a cruise is a beautiful start to a liveaboard holiday. You have all evening to relax on board while getting to know your new ship mates over a cold beer or two. Cruising up the coast of Phuket gives a different perspective on the island.

Similan liveaboards from Phuket:

Diva Andaman. The most luxurious boat in the Similan Islands departs from Chalong bay.

Giamani. Departs and returns to Chalong bay. In between 4 day 4 night Similan trips Giamani runs 2 day 2 night trips south of Phuket to Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, Koh Haa and Phi Phi. Combining the two trips makes for an excellent Andaman Sea diving itinerary.

The Junk. Departs every Saturday from Patong bay on Phuket’s west coast.

Scuba Adventure. a lower budget Similan liveaboard that still has some departures from Phuket.
