Kathu Tin Mine Museum

 

Phuket Island’s wealth was built by Chinese migrants who came to the island to mine tin. The Kathu area of Phuket (central Phuket between Patong and Phuket Town) was one of the main areas for tin mining and as that is where we live and also where our office is based I was interested in learning more about the history. I wasn’t expecting too much but came away quite impressed by the place. I won’t go into the history here but if you would like to learn a little about Phuket’s history it’s worth an hour of your time.

If you are on holiday in Phuket you probably won’t be staying in Kathu so you’ll need to make a special visit. Actually there are a lot of other activities in Kathu, most of them adventure orientated. You can do a 50m bungy jump, go wake boarding at Phuket wake park or zip-lining at the Flying Hanuman (recommended). Kathu waterfall is small but pleasantly cool for a quick dip. There are also some great local restaurants.
