Cycling around Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi has to be one of the best ways to see the countryside and meet the local people. If you like to keep active and want to bypass the crowds join one of these organized mountain bike tours.
Phuket can sometimes seem very developed but jump on a bicycle and hit the back roads and dirt tracks and you’ll enter a different world. Take your bike on a long tail boat and head to nearby islands like Koh Yao Noi or ride off the island to experience the spectacular scenery of Phang Nga, Krabi and Koh Sok National Park.
The tours use good quality Trek mountain bikes with Shimano components. Helmets are provided and a support vehicle is close by if needed. All tours are guided by experienced and passionate mountain bike guides. There are tours suitable for all levels of cycling proficiency. These tours are about more than just cycling.
Half Day Tour: Mountain biking Phuket Countryside
A popular bike tour around the least developed corner of Phuket island. You’ll ride on back roads and single track through rainforest and rubber and pineapple plantations. You’ll ride through villages and past schools where local children wave and shout hello. You will visit Khao Prataew National Park and the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project to see how gibbons are rescued and cared for in preparation for release back to the wild. You will also visit Bang Pae waterfall and Ao Por Bay.
Price: 1,900 baht
Days: Every Mon, Thurs, Sat
Group Size: Minimum 2. Maximum 12
Distance: 18-22 km. A few gentle hills.
Included: Mountain bike, helmet, water bottle, guide, English speaking guide, hotel transfers, drinking water, fruit snacks, support vehicle, insurance.
Not included: Lunch, National Park Fee (200 baht per person).
What to bring: Sports shoes suitable for cycling, sun screen, sunglasses, hat, camera.
Itinerary:
0700-0900: Hotel pick up and transfer to north east Phuket Island.
0900-1000: Biking along off road trails and single tracks though plantations.
1000-1100: Visit the Gibbon rehab centre and Bang Pae Waterfall
1100-1230: Cycling on quiet back roads to a hidden view point, past villages to Ao Por Bay.
1230-1330: Transfer back to your hotel
Full Day Tour – Koh Yao Noi (Phang Nga)
A small island located in Phang Nga Bay, a 1 hour boat ride from Phuket. It’s a sleepy island with very few vehicles.
Bike past rich tropical rainforest, past beaches and fishing villages, past rice paddies and small local markets. A combination of on road and off road biking. There are easy routes and challenging routes that can be adjusted to suit all levels of rider.
Price: 3,200 baht
Days: Every Tuesday and Sunday
Group Size: Minimum 2. Maximum 12
Distance: 30 km. A few gentle hills.
Included: Mountain bike, helmet, water bottle, guide, English speaking guide, hotel transfers, drinking water, fruit snacks, insurance, lunch, small back pack to carry stuff (the support vehicle cannot join on Koh Yao Noi.

Itinerary:
0700-0915: Phuket hotel pick up and transfer to Bang Rong Pier.
0930-1030: A very scenic boat ride through Phang Nga Bay to Koh Yai Noi Island
1030-1300: Biking around Koh Yao Noi
1300-1400: Lunch at a beach side restaurant with time to swim.
1400-1500: Cycling through shaded rubber plantations.
1500-1600: Cruise back from Koh Yao Noi.
1600-1700: Transfer back to your hotel.
Full Day Tour – Thai Muang Turtles and Waterfalls
Ride along the Andaman coast between Phuket Island and Khao Lak. Escape the tourists are see deserted beaches, temples and waterfalls that few others see.
Mostly cycling on quiet roads with a few kilometres of dirt track. The morning ride is 30km on flat terrain. After lunch and a visit to a sea turtle sanctuary the 15km ride has a few gentle hills up to Ton Prai waterfall.

Days: Every Wednesday and Saturday
Group Size: Minimum 2. Maximum 12
Distance: 45 km. Mostly flat with a few gentle hills.

Itinerary:
0700-0930: Phuket hotel pick up and transfer to north Phuket Island.
0930-1200: Bike over Sarasin bridge off Phuket island and up the Andaman coast.
1200-1300: Lunch at a beach side restaurant in Thai Muang.
1300-1330: Visit a turtle breeding sanctuary.
1330-1500: Bike along quiet roads to Ton Prai waterfall
1500-1600: A short hike to the waterfall then time to relax and have a dip.
1600-1730: Return transfer to your hotel.
